Jcom 2160- Reading 1

I really thought these were great readings to start with. I think it is very important, since the world is becoming more technological, to know how to act online. Just because you can communicate with people more quickly, you should not be treating them rudely. I liked the point that you should never e-mail or IM something to someone that you wouldn’t say to them.

E-mail and chat rooms are convenient but we should not be using them like we don’t have any sense of what is courteous. You would never flat out tell a stranger that you disagree with them and they are stupid, but with the internet, things like that are happening more and more often. People don’t have to be who they really are online.

Letter to Cousin: Assignment 1

Dear Garrett,

It was nice to hear from you. I’m so glad you’re doing well in Mexico. I am studying at Utah State now, and my major is public relations.

As a PR professional, I will most likely work for a specific company or a PR firm. Working for a company I would do a lot of writing. The different writings that I would do would be to make the company look their best to the public. Website content, company newsletters and press releases are just a few of the things that I would write. This writing is all to help the company put their best foot forward. As a PR professional I would also help with event planning. Events can help to better a company's image if they are put on properly.

Working for a PR firm, I would be doing the same type of things, but for a company that doesn’t have in-house public relations professionals.

I miss you a lot.

Jackie
